Into the Hive - the Offering (2008)

I became a fan of the OFFERING when I heard Kara Sultan's ethereal vocals on Track 10 ("Your Eyes" [Snake Mix]) of the Into the Hive CD. The Sarparajni herself might approve of this song that continues to leminscate around my mind~~~In fact, there's not a song I don't like, but others that stand out are Tracks 1, 3 and 4. Track 4 ("Luna") has the sublime mixture of Kara's hauntingly lovely vocals combined with Mark Sheppard's intensely primal vocals complete with provocative lyrics (written by David Sims and Mark Sheppard). Besides bringing his vocals and lyrics, Mark was responsible for the CD's creation as a whole with his contributions in the guitar, fretless bass, synths and programming arenas as well.

Into the Hive - the Offering (2008)

This latest disc from the great British act The Offering has been in the works for quite some time, and has been well worth the wait. This is definitely a band whose creative output just keeps getting stronger and stronger. The Offering excel at purveying dark goth-tinged pop which skillfully marries electronics with an awesome rock guitar sound. "48 Hours In Tokyo" features slick production, great vocals and cool electronic flourishes. Like many of the tracks, songs like "Damaged" and "Golgotha Falls" have a clean, uncluttered sound and a very polished, smart production. "Luna" is hooky and infectious, while "Of God and Gasoline" is looser and almost jazzy. "Love Song" is very minor sounding, with lilting vocals and a mechanical patchwork of exquisite sounds. This is an album that is very melodic, to-the-point and not overlong. The Offering are very talented at crafting music that is the aural equivalent of black silk....stylish, sensual and dark. Very well done.

Cambridge no sólo es una ciudad de Inglaterra conocida por su historia y universidad, también es desde hace casi una década la cede del estudio de grabación Firce Kitten Records. Allí en 1998, Mark Sheppard junto a Julie Watkins editaron un primer EP llamado Illyria bajo el nombre Cara and The Offering aunque un año después este proyecto musical, que combinaba el sonido electro y las guitarras se transformaría en The Offering. La agrupación contó con diferentes aristas a lo largo de su carrera y entre otros participaron: Gary Bailey en sintetizadores, las vocalistas Julie Watkins, Heather Brooks (desde el EP Three Broken Treads), Sue Zmoelnig, Alisa B, Maria Coppola (oriunda de Sheffield), Kara Sultan ( incorporada en el año 2004, hoy miembro estable de la banda ), y Mark Sheppard líder y fundador encargado de las programaciones, sintetizadores y guitarras. Sus primeras grabaciones poseen un estilo más oscuro con canciones de melodías cercanas al clásico rock gótico, con voces etéreas, letras melancólicas, románticas y crónicas vampíricas. Pero a lo largo del tiempo The Offering demostró su originalidad y eclecticismo musical combinando estilos como el denominado electro rock, pasando por el Dark, e incluso el World Music, prueba de ello son las colaboraciones Mark Sheppard junto al músico canadiense Gary Flanagan o el senagalés Alphousseyni Kouyate, además de los remixes con Murat Yasin de Turquía o el Italiano Airbag Killex. Luego de varios singles, y con dos álbumes como Monsters and Angels y Retrospective más el CD Yssi Soundtracks del año 2008, la agrupación regresa con un nuevo álbum llamado "Into The Hive". Esta placa que cuenta con diez temas y cuyo primer single Damaged se ha podido conocer el año pasado, consolida el camino que buscó The Offering dentro del mundo de la música. La voz de Kara Sultan y las composiciones de Mark Sheppard hacen de The Offering una interesante y original agrupación que demuestran la profesionalidad con la que han trabajado para esta última producción. "Into The Hive" abre con un ritmo electro marcado por el bajo de Mark Sheppard en 48 Hours in Tokio, y se continúa con Damaged. Golgotha Falls creada originalmente en 1998 sea tal vez de las mejores canciones de la agrupación, de temática bíblica clásica, la canción supera este mero pasaje para adentrarnos en una atmósfera melancólica donde la voz femenina de una de interpretación insuperable se acompaña de una muy sutil guitarra. También encontramos el tema Luna con un estribillo a manera de Leit Motiv que se repite sobre una interesante percusión. La canción Of God and Gasoline que es una excelente pieza musical y recuerda un poco a Kate Bush o la atmósfera digna de Tori Amos en Boys For Pele, hace de puente para adentrarnos nuevamente en el genial ritmo electrónico de Day of the Dead. Another World es tal vez la canción más atípica de álbum mezclando un poco el pop con reminiscencias cercanas al funk. Love Song es una composición que la agrupación The Offering conoce muy bien: el amor romántico. El nuevo álbum termina con un sonido bien electrónico marcado por la siempre original voz de Kara Sultan en Your Eyes. Into the Hive (Promo) - the Offering (2008)

The 4-track promo album from this Cambridge based, keyboard based and female fronted melodic band. I love the astonishingly beautiful female vocals indeed. This certainly adds a very sweet and haunting feminine feel to the songs. The 4 songs are great samples of a band with a gentle touch; it's very easy too listen to, but not so easy to sing along to . It does, however, offer good gothic background music for a club.

Luna - the Offering (2007)

The third single from electro goth act the Offering's forthcoming 'Into the Hive' album to appear on iTunes. 'Luna' sets a paranoid pace, with a dense, squelching bass line completing the skittish rhythm section. Kara's ambient wailings are on this occasion off-set with some whispered male vocals, all boding well for the full length when they finally finish it!.

48 Hours in Tokyo - The Offering (2007)

A chilled effort now from Cambridge electro-rock set the Offering. '48 Hours in Tokyo' positively glides on understated, subtley hypnotic synths and the breathy seductive voice of one time Clandestined vocalist Kara Sultan. The overall sound is somewhere between Depeche Mode's suave electro anthems and the kooky charm of Kate Bush or even early Bjork. B-sides come care of remix outfits as far flung as Istanbul and Verona and though I'm not generally a great fan of remixes to fill up single space in place of some proper spanking new songs these do offer some interesting new takes on the lead track. Nice one indeed.
